Jun 11, 2016 · This article explores the concept and practice of patient advocacy from the perspective of clinical nurses. It presents the findings of a qualitative study that interviewed 23 nurses from different wards of a teaching hospital in Iran. The study reveals the challenges and facilitators of patient advocacy, as well as the implications for nursing education and policy. Historically, patient advocacy has been a moral obligation for nurses. During recent years, nursing literature has been focused on the advocacy role and nursing professions has adopted the term 'patient advocacy' to denote an ideal of the practice [ 1 ].
